Mars Rovers mark 5 years on Mars

Originally intended to work for just 90 days, Spirit has now been operating for five years and Opportunity will hit that milestone in a few more weeks. The fact that NASA has been able to keep them both going for that long is pretty amazing given that I have a hard time keeping my laptop operational for more than a few weeks without doing some serious, high bandwidth maintenance.
“These rovers are incredibly resilient considering the extreme environment the hardware experiences every day,” said John Callas, Jet Propulsion Laboratory project manager for Spirit and Opportunity.
Here’s to another five years.
